Background
Built out of a passion project unlocked during 2020, Nishibotsu was made as a space for me to have complete artistic freedom and act as a platform to share my work. The objective was to create a visually striking body of work, that came from the heart, and was refined with engineering and production principles for scaling.
Finding my feet
That love of working with wood resurfaced into my life around 2020, finding a local workshop (GZ Bucheggplatz!) that offered the space, advice and tools to be able to create something from the heart.
After 2 years of small projects, learning materials and processes, I undertook ,what was to be, the first unofficial Nishibotsu product, the Dining Table. A 6-seater Dining Table with a unique split running through the middle and impactful use of the 'Butterfly' joining technique, commonly used to stop splits in wood propagating further over time.
Signature Style
Nishibotsu draws upon the natural contrast of Walnut and Maple wood to create furniture products that are light, refined and statement pieces without overwhelming the environment.
The Leap of Faith
Turning this passion into a business is the natural progression.
"Creating something from the heart, with the focus on product has always been the best part of my career, so I wanted to create a business that shares this feeling with others."
By leveraging my engineering experience, I am able to create scalable designs, set-up purchasing contracts and create the necessary quality documentation to make each part repeatable and for a good price point.
The Future
"We will continue with the Hero product, The Sideboard, in small batches and increase our exposure to the market in Zurich, keeping quality, enjoyment and happiness at the centre of what we do. I would love to able to expand the range to offer other designs with our signature style."
