Background & Problem Statement

My Japanese-inspired furniture making business was starting to get some traction and needed a strong brand identity to establish trust and recognition. The challenge was to create a professional, memorable branding that associated elegance and mystery, whilst being both modern and natural.

Inspiration

Then inspiration was then born one evening watching the Sunset over Uetliberg, ZR.

The name comes from the Japanese translation from the English word for Sunset, Nichi-batsu.

The slightly modified spelling helps soften the wording, creating a memorable rhythmical name which aids with Brand recognition.

Logo & Visual Identity Design

The logo combines the strong geometry of a Bow-Tie or Butterfly with the Kanji script for the word 'Nishibotsu' added on the left section of the form creating an instantly recognisable form to help distinguish the Nishibotsu brand.

A calming colour palette was chosen to evoke calm but with a splash of modernity. The Typography was clean and legible, reinforcing the furnitures credibility and mystery.

Brand Implementation

The branding was applied across various touch-points, including becoming a design feature in all of the furniture designs, both in a practical and signature sense.

The symbology and logo has also been included on business cards, uniforms, and a website. A consistent visual language helped create a recognizable and cohesive brand experience.

Results & Feedback

The new branding has helped the furniture business establish a strong presence in the community. It attracts new enquiries through its professional and welcoming identity, rounding off the experience of good design and instilling trust in the quality of the products.
