Creating DMUs

Aircraft ECS Dehumidifier Installation

Validation with 3D CAD DMU for Dehimidification Installation on VIP B767

Date

February 5, 2025

Background

To validate our long-lead time high-cost components and Secondary Structure attachments required for this mod, a partial DMU of the B767 fuselage was modelled to provide lengths and support structure for drawing creation.

Methodology

Using Boeing Manual Data available and Catia V6, I was able to model the Primary and Secondary fuselage sections to a high degree of accuracy for the B767. The model was also set up in a modular way, so that multiple CAD users could work using the same reference data at the same time.

Design

The accuracy of the DMU allowed me to easily select attachment points for the structure in collaboration with the Stress team, and also validate my routing, creating accurate BOMs and Purchase requests for the long-lead items with confidence.

Results & Feedback

The system was installed with a 0% error rate for the long-lead high-cost heated tubing elements, and the DMU was able to be reused in the future to help with accurate quoting for further jobs.
